Community members explore employment opportunities at One Stop Career Center’s Community Job Fair

Last Friday, we were honored to host a job fair in Jersey City to help connect our community members to local employers within various sectors. It was a great turnout, and participants not only had the opportunity to explore openings within the local job market, but had a chance to speak with employers directly about their work and interview for open positions right on the spot! We wish to thank all of our participants , and we look forward to continuing our partnership in the future.

Services for JCETP Board Member, Henry Plotkin (Thursday, Nov. 9, 11 a.m.)

Henry pictured with his wife, Susanne.

Our former board member and dear friend Henry Plotkin, who so ably served in the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, during the administrations of four governors, peacefully passed away last week and will be buried tomorrow. There are all too few people who possessed the decency, integrity, and wisdom of Henry, as well as, a fierce devotion and sense of advocacy for the least of these in our society. Henry believed passionately in the importance of workforce development and training as an instrument for employment and social mobility. We were honored and privileged to have Henry serve on our JCETP Board, where he made an invaluable contribution to our efforts.

Please keep Henry and his beloved wife, Susanne, in your thoughts and prayers, as we pay our final tribute tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m., at Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick, N.J. 08901.

Video: Once a Head Cook in Federal Prison, Now a Cook at a Local Café

One week after completing our orientation, our client, Candido, landed a job as a cook at the Light Rail Cafe in Jersey City. He had a tremendous amount of experience; he had worked as a head cook in federal prison for more than 20 years, where he also supervised 20 additional employees. Originally given a release date of 2035, Candido was among more than 200 individuals who were granted clemency by President Barack Obama in 2016. Video by Stefanie Campolo
